My Favorite Must Read Books In 2021

Sharing is caring!

Reading has become a favorite hobby of mine! Ever since I did a social detox, I needed new ways to fill up my time. Reading happily filled the void. Each night I try and dedicate about an hour to reading instead of scrolling on my phone. I set a goal for 12 books this year, and I am already to nearly 20! Ever since I have declared my love for reading, people are now asking ME for good book recommendations. I am ready to share my favorite “Must read books” that I have read this year.

Books With a Twist

I love suspense, thrillers and surprise endings! A lot of books on my list contain books that really had me thinking at the end.

These must read books will have you flipping pages insanely fast. Each book is better than the last and you’ll be left in a weird mood after each one, just thinking about the twist at the end. You’ve been warned!

My Favorite Must Read Books in 2021

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

This has been of my favorite reads this year, and the whole book wasn’t anything like I expected. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is about an old but very famous actress who has lived a glamorous life full of seven husbands, and begins writing her memoirs at age 67 (I think). I don’t want to give too much away because it’s almost better to go in not knowing much! There is a great twist at the end making this book exceptional.

The Silent Patient

This book is an absolute psychological thriller. It’s about a woman who kills her husband and then doesn’t speak for months. She is then sent to a mental institute because she will not speak. You’re never quite sure what happened that night as doctors try working with her to uncover the truth. The twist at the end was SO shocking to me! The Silent Patient gets two thumbs up!

The Last Flight

The last Flight was so engaging that I read it in two days! This is a unique story full of twists and turns, and you will fall in love with both characters. The story follows two very different vulnerable and brave woman who have secrets that they are running from. There are so many twists and turns in this book and in my opinion is very well done. A must read if you like suspense/thrillers.

This is my favorite book this year, and I’ll admit it, that’s saying a lot. This book STILL has me thinking about the ending months after I have read it! It honestly isn’t like anything I have ever read before.

It should come with a HUGE warning that there is sexually graphic content in this book. Verity is about a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she is hired to complete the remaining books in a successful series written by a different author. So many twists and turns make this the definition of a thriller.

The Midnight Library

The Midnight Library is nothing like I have read before. I am not usually into sci-fi (which this book teeters on). After talking to many people this book was hit or miss for them, you either loved it or it was meh. At the end of the book I walked away feeling appreciative for everything I have.

The Push

This book could be very polarizing for people, another love it, or hate it. The Push examines four generations of mental illness within one family. While I found many parts to be somewhat slow, the ending really had me thinking. It’s one of those books where you go back and forth on what you think is actually happening.

Daisy Jones And The Six

Taylor Jenkins Reed does it again, I feel in love with this book. She did such an amazing job writting this book that I actually Googled two times If this was a real bad. Daisy Jones + The Six follows, Daisy Jones who is an up and coming 70’s rock and roll singer, who joins forces with an established band the Six. The book is written as if it were an interview with all the different bandmates. I fell in love with the characters, the music, the 70s. It’s one of those books I didn’t want to end.

The Maidens

The Maidens was written by the same author as Silent Patient (see above) I will admit that this book started off much slower, and took me a bit to get into but I was fascinated to see where it went and I am glad I stuck with it because I was absolutely blindsided by the ending.

Other Books I’d Recommend

Malibu Rising (Also written by Taylor Jenkins Reed)

The Four Winds– People absolutely LOVED this and went crazy for it, I thought the writing was fabulous but the story is also very sad.

Then She Was Gone- This is told from several perspectives. The story of a girl who had everything going on for her, and suddenly she vanishes.

The Girl With The Lauding Voice– I fell in love with the main character, and all of her struggle and perseverance growing up in a remote Nigerian village.

The Vanishing Half– A story about two twin sisters who grow up together and then grow apart as one sister leaves abruptly.

That’s A Wrap

If you’re looking for a way to keep your reading list fresh and exciting, try picking up some of these amazing plot twist books.

These page turners will have you guessing until the very end–you’ll be dying (get it?) to see what happens next! Which of these novels do YOU like best? What’s your new favorite book that has a big reveal at the end? Let us know in the comments section!
